The movie was Excalibur released in 1981 with a bunch of little known actors at the time like Liam Neeson, Patrick Stewart and Helen Mirren.

Merlin (incidentally played by Nicol Williamson) was being philosophical about being outwitted by a fish.

But his point was that you should treat every situation as a potential learning experience.

I believe with all the advances in AI, tech, analytics and digital that were seeing today the opportunity has never been greater to learn stuff.
